The Adoration of the Magi Triptych reflects Toledo’s artistic welcoming with complex theological themes and international styles during medieval times. The central panel, with the Magi offering gifts to the Christ Child, shows Toledo’s connection to ideas of conformity and the recognition of Christ by all nations. This is a concept resonant in a city known for its diverse Christian, Jewish, and Muslim backgrounds. The exotic costumes and refined gestures of the Magi also echo the influence of Flemish painting, which circulated in Toledo through trade and other networks.

Bilbao fine arts museum relates this to Toledo.

“Even the remains of original relief work in some of the surviving panels... suggest the same carpenter at work on... the panel of the Madonna with the Child, St. Catherine and Donors... and in the temple of the Adoration of the Magi in the St. Eugene retable.”
