Bust of Juanelo Turriano

Anonymous artist | 20th century (likely) | Bronze or stone

Turriano was a key part of the scientific revolution in the Spainish Rennaisance. He was an Italian-born engineer and inventor who is most famous for his contribution as a clock maker. He is most remembered for designing the Artificío de Juanelo a hydraulic pump which raised water from the Tagus River to the Alcazar. This contraption was critical to the success of the city as it supplied the city with water. The bust—currently located at the Museum of Santa Cruz in Toledo commemorates his life and legacy as an engineer, and celebrates the important work he did for the city.
