Dettlaff van der Eretein is a higher vampire who rescued Regis after the latter had seemingly been killed by Vilgefortz during the assault on Stygga castle. Geralt and his companions had — not surprisingly — assumed being reduced to a puddle of plasma was a fatal condition, but Dettlaff was able to help Regis regenerate fully. For this, the former barber-surgeon would be forever grateful
